Singapore’s 59th National Day is coming up on Friday, 9 August this year and we’re ready to celebrate! Every year, the fireworks and airshows get better and better, and the only question is, where to go for the best view?
Luckily, there are plenty of options, so it’s just a matter of what vibe you like. Whether it’s picnicking in a park, raving on rooftops or living it large at bars and lounges, there’s something for everyone!
Here are our top picks, with a few off-the-beaten-path options to consider as well.
For the most quintessentially Singaporean celebration of National Day, head to the main landmarks to soak in the sights in style. The go-to viewpoints are Marina Bay Sands SkyPark and The Singapore Flyer.
Pros: You’ll have the best views from iconic landmarks right in the centre of the action.
Cons: Expect crowds and queues, because everyone wants to be there!

It’s a well-known fact that the SkyPark Observation Deck at Marina Bay Sands is the place to go for unparalleled views of Singapore’s skyline. Perched high up on the 57th floor, you can see the entire bay below and get a close-up experience of the fireworks and airshow. Head over to Marina Bay Sands Rooftop to enjoy drinks from a luxury bar and lounge, and take a dip in the infinity pool for that thrilling feeling of floating on top of the world!

One of the world's largest observation wheels, The Singapore Flyer is a favourite destination for the National Day Fireworks. It’s great because your group can have a whole air-conditioned capsule to yourselves. Plus, its central location makes you feel like you’re up in the air with the fireworks, protected in a glass bubble. A truly memorable experience for the whole family.
There’s nothing like a rooftop party on fireworks night! The city is bursting with rooftop bars and spaces that offer idyllic views of the National Day fireworks and airshow, so there’s plenty to choose from.
Pros: Great views, great drinks, great memories.
Cons: You have to take the weather into account, as most rooftops are uncovered, and bars can get more pricey with every floor up.
Known as the “Durian” for its interesting shape, the Esplanade boasts a tranquil roof terrace that happens to have fantastic views of the National Day fireworks and airshow. This green refuge is surrounded by art and culture so you can make a day of it by enjoying some pre-fireworks shows inside before heading out to the roof terrace for the main event.

Located on levels 61 and 62 of Raffles Place, the rooftop bar Highhouse offers a classy experience of the National Day fireworks. Head to Highhouse if you’re in the mood for sophisticated vibes, exquisite cocktails, gourmet food, and live music. Window seats are hard to get though, so book early!
A picnic in the park is a great way to celebrate National Day for families, couples and friends alike. And there’s something wonderful about being able to lie down and watch the fireworks above you in the starry sky.
Pros: Parks are relatively more spacious and less crowded than tourist hot spots.
Cons: The weather is a major factor to contend with.
Who doesn’t love the Merlion statue? If you want this icon to feature in all your fireworks photos, head to Merlion Park for your National Day celebrations! Views from this vantage point are a photographer’s dream, as the water doubles the sparkle of the fireworks with extra reflective glitz. And taking a stroll along the Marina Bay Waterfront Promenade is a great way to soak in the festive atmosphere.
Set slightly further from the festivities, on the eastern side of Marina Bay, Bay East Garden offers a tranquil and spacious place for a picnic with friends and family. Lie back in the grass and enjoy the National Day fireworks and airshow set against the expansive night sky.
The Marina Barrage is the epitome of a multi-functional space. Not only does it provide a water supply, a means of flood control and a park for outdoor activities, it also offers breathtaking views! From here, you can see the Gardens by the Bay and Marina Bay on one side, with the vast ocean on the other. It’s a fantastic spot for fireworks night. Take a picnic and splurge in the spaciousness of the grassy lawn while the sky glitters and shimmers around you.
Many people will opt to enjoy the National Day fireworks from a restaurant or bar, but not many will consider celebrating in a private office. If you think about it, though and offices are a great option for anyone who is crowd-averse.
Pros: Incredible views, indoors (air-conditioned), crowd-free.
Cons: You need to bring your own food/drink and maybe decorations to make it more festive.
